Presence and Protection
“‘No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,’ says the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17).
Scripture Focus: Isaiah 54:9-17
Part of my responsibility as a pastor is to visit patients who are hospitalized in isolation due to infection in their bodies. The warnings are real, and I take them seriously, wearing a mask, gloves, and gown to protect the patient and me from transmitting or receiving germs.
The history of Israel records the continuous battles they lived through. God raised up various nations such as Assyria and Babylonia to punish them because of their sin and rebellion. At the same time, God’s prophet Isaiah affirmed His compassion toward His people and His protection of them over their enemies.
The time will come when enemies will not be allowed to attack God’s servants. As we approach the end of the age, evil will increase, but so will the outpouring of God’s Spirit. In the darkness of evil, the brightness of His Son will be seen.
God’s protection comes in the assurance of His presence as He reminds us, “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
Insight: God promises to be with us in deep water, dark valleys, even the heat of fire. In our greatest times of need, God is never indifferent.
