W – Workmanship of God
“We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)
Scripture Focus: Ephesians 2:1-10
“What a beautiful desk!” Is the reaction of many guests when they see the hand made desk in my dad’s house.
The inlaid light and dark oak. He took the wood from a trip to our Missouri home, hoping my dad could build a nice table around it.
Always a perfectionist, dad searched stores, hotel and office lobbies, and project books for ideas. Several paper templates, a cardboard mock-up, and practice on scrap wood preceded his final work with oak. The intricate legs were fashioned from blocks on his lathe. Many hours of rubbing, sanding, polishing, and varnishing added finishing touches. It was his “magnum opus” wood project. We could weep thinking of his love for us.
God in love is patiently and persistently working on us, with an ultimate goal of perfection in mind. His plan has your name on it, and it includes the specific ways you can serve Him as He works in you to make you a model of His handiwork.
Insight: “Lord, what I am today is not the best Your grace can do in me. I am currently under Your construction. Make me responsive to what You want to do in me.”
