"'I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me...All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people'" (Romans 10:20-21).
Scripture Focus: Acts 6:6; 8:17; 13:3
God made the first humans with His own hands, in His image-as His children. Then the deceiver, Satan, talked Adam and Eve into becoming his followers, his children. Why didn't God use His hands right then to destroy humanity?
It was because of His great love. God reached out His hands to Adam and Eve and to their descendants throughout history, offering each one the right to become His child (John 1:12). Jesus gave His hands...and humans pierced them.
God told the Israelites to touch the sacrifices they brought to God (Leviticus 1:4) to identify with them. This showed that the sacrifice was taking their place and paying for their sins. Touching the sacrifice acted out their faith in God's Word.
The apostles laid their hands on believers as they received the Holy Spirit. Church leaders lay hands on those who will preach, identifying with them. Through touch, Christians act out our faith, showing our true identity as God's children. And with the handprint of Christ on us, no one can snatch us away.
Insight: Let's rejoice with David that wherever we would go, there the hand of the Lord will guide us and hold us (Psalm 139:10).
