What Jesus Wants
"After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: 'Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you'" (John 17:1).
Scripture Focus: John 17
It's the final hour. Jesus is in the upper room. He finishes teaching and then begins to pray - out loud so that we can hear. In John 17 we get to listen in on the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son. His prayer reveals the passionate desires He has for us. This is what He wants; this is what He asks:
That we be kept safe in the Father's name.
That we be set apart from the world by the truth.
That we experience the joy He has in His relationship with the Father.
That we be one as He and the Father are one, united in love with each other.
That we experience and understand the love the Father has for us.
That we be with Him and see Him as He is, in all His glory.
These are all the things that Jesus knew were the most important to lay before the throne of the Father. They still are most important. Jesus pours Himself out in prayer for us, and then He pours out His blood to make it happen.
Insight: "The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands" (John 3:35).
