Trust In Him
"Lord, help me!' she said. He replied, It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs. Yes, Lord...but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." Matthew 15:25-27.
Scripture Focus: Matthew 15:21-28
Asking favors for ourselves can be difficult. Yet, the pride that may prevent us from asking is quickly dismissed when the need is for a loved one, especially if the request is for a child.
The Gentile woman in this passage knew she had no claim on the Jewish Messiah. But her appeal was not for herself. Others were being healed and her daughter needed healing, too.
It must have been offensive to hear Jesus liken her family to dogs, but she did not argue. She humbly accepted her position as secondary to the Jewish people for the purposes of Jesus' ministry. That did not stop her from persevering in her request. She knew that even the least of us can receive mercy.
Today, we may complain when God tells us “no” or “wait”. We may chafe when others receive blessings we desire. Yet, just as the Lord met this woman's need with a miracle, He reminds us to trust Him when His answers are not what we want. What we want and what we need may be very different, and what we need most of all may be a lesson in humility.
Insight: For what request have you been waiting while others are blessed instead? Trust God to provide for your true needs in his perfect time.
