+DEV+ The Sign Of The Blood

Date: September 30, 2015 1:33 AM
Topic: +DEV+  The Sign Of The Blood

The Sign Of The Blood

"The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood,
I will pass over you." Exodus 12:13

Scripture Focus: Exodus 12:1-28

Passover told the story. That annual feast, the most important in the Jewish calendar, told of the rescue of God's people from Egyptian bondage. When God sent the ten plagues, the final one was the most severe. All the first-born in Egypt were to be slain in one horrible night of judgment. God's chosen people, however, were spared if they slaughtered a sacrificial lamb and placed its blood on the doorposts of their houses. Every year that story was dramatically told. In fact, they're still telling it! All who know Jesus as Messiah are telling it, too.

Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with His 12 disciples - and gave it a whole new meaning. He told of His impending death as the ultimate fulfillment of that Old Testament picture. Those sacrificial lambs pointed forward to the Lamb of God whose blood was to be shed on Calvary's cross. Salvation for the children of Israel came as they, by faith, applied the blood to their houses. Salvation for us comes as Christ applies His precious blood to wash away our sins.

Insight: Every time we partake of the communion service, we're still telling the passover story!

+DEV+ I Am The Lord

Date: September 29, 2015 12:34 AM
Topic: +DEV+  I Am The Lord

I Am The Lord

"...that you may tell your children and grandchildren how I dealt harshly with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the Lord." EXODUS 10:2

Scripture Focus: Exodus 8:1-15

The matronly teacher stood in front of the Daily Vacation Bible School class telling the story of the ten plagues which God used to get Pharaoh's attention. As she told of the second plague, she lifted a loaf of homemade bread. With a serrated knife she cut the loaf in half, revealing inside a large ceramic frog! The nine-year-old boys in that class were awe-struck!

But they got the message - that God is serious, and not to be messed with! They also were told of God's provision of rescue for those Israelites who would trust Him. The final plague, the killing of the first-born, showed God's provision of sacrificial lambs. The lambs' blood was applied to the Israelites' doorposts, offering protection from the angel of death.

The lambs pointed to the ultimate Lamb of God, who would one day be sacrificed to provide salvation to those who would look to Him in faith. I was one of the boys in that class, and it was later that week - over forty eight years ago - that I put my faith in Christ. That frog got my attention!

Insight: He is an awesome God; don't mess with Him! He is a loving God; trust in Him.

+DEV+ A Hunger To Know My God

Date: September 28, 2015 2:41 AM
Topic: +DEV+  A Hunger To Know My God

A Hunger To Know My God

"I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians." Exodus 6:7

Scripture Focus: Philippians 3:7-14

It's all about Jesus. Our hearts vibrate with the message of God's love, grace, salvation and victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. We cry out with the Apostle Paul, "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings..." (Philippians 3:10)

The person of Jesus, and God's working through Him in our lives, is wonderfully prefigured in His much earlier working with His chosen people Israel. Much of that took place in the wilderness, even as much of our lives seems to be "in the wilderness," too. As God patiently led and fashioned the hearts of His people, so He desires to work with us.

His purpose, expressed often in the book of Exodus, was "that you may know that I am the Lord." We come to know His person; we develop confidence in His power; we rest in the glory of our personal relationship with Him. As I study the Old Testament, I find a hunger to know my God; I am led to worship; I see my Savior; I long to know Him better. That's an exciting journey!

Insight: Lord, help us to know you more intimately so that we can trust you more implicitly.

+DEV+ My Ways Higher Than Your Ways

Date: September 25, 2015 12:11 AM
Topic: +DEV+  My Ways Higher Than Your Ways

My Ways Higher Than Your Ways

"I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them..." Exodus 3:7-8

Scripture Focus: Exodus 3:7-10

There were long days of suffering; years of waiting. Those Israelite slaves surely experienced deep discouragement, honest questions about God's absence, and sincere wrestling to understand God's working. They must have understood the truth that Isaiah later expressed, direct from God: "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts'" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

We may not understand God's working, and certainly not His timing! Many of us have known long years of waiting for a sign of hope in a dark situation. But we can rest assured that He does hear, He does care, and - at the right time - He does come. Our task is simply to cry out to Him in prayer, to trust Him to know what is best for our needs, and to rest in His great compassion.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest"
(Matthew 11:28).

Insight: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

+DEV+ Something Is Always Happening

Topic: +DEV+  Something Is Always Happening

Something Is Always Happening

"There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up." Exodus 3:2

Scripture Focus: Exodus 3:1-6

I was sharing with my pastor friend Dave some real consternation at the silence of God and His seeming absence when I needed Him the most. He said, "Mike, don't ever forget this great truth: 'When nothing's happening, something's happening.'"

Four hundred years of God's seeming absence from His people... forty years of His seeming absence from Moses while he tended sheep. But behind the scenes, God was sovereignly at work. When nothing seemed to be happening, something
was happening!

It was an ordinary, routine day when it started out. With every year the ground got harder for Moses in his tent, the muscles more sore each morning. But when God was ready, He really showed up! A bush that burned but was not consumed. A command to remove his shoes because he was on holy ground.

Jesus so often did the same thing. A man blind from birth; a woman many years hemorrhaging; a tax collector deep in sin. But at just the right time, Jesus shows up and life is changed. Get ready; this may be your day!

Insight: When nothing's happening, something is happening, and it's Jesus who is doing it!

+DEV+ Make Disciples Of All The Nations

Date: September 22, 2015 10:28 PM
Topic: +DEV+  Make Disciples Of All The Nations

Make Disciples Of All The Nations

"Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit... and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20, NKJV

Scripture Focus: John 14:13-31

It is as we carry out the Great Commission that we are promised the presence of the Lord. In three centuries the early church grew from a small sect within Judaism to the religion of the Roman Empire. Throughout this time the church was hidden, growing by personal witness and small fellowships. There were no efforts in the public sphere. There were simply people who knew and loved Jesus, spoke about Him, and loved each other and their neighbors in a way that impressed pagans around them. They were people so convinced of the presence of Jesus with them that they faced death courageously. The "mustard seed" grew into a great tree.

Although we may encounter difficulties in carrying out the Great Commission, as Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:8, "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair." Perplexed in the original Greek means "no way through." Despair is the same word intensified, meaning, "utterly without any way through." There will always be a way; Jesus guarantees it.

Insight: The Lord will never let us think that there is absolutely no way through. Whatever our perplexities, he will keep us from despair.

+DEV+ For The Lord Delights In You

Date: September 22, 2015 1:26 AM
Topic: +DEV+  For The Lord Delights In You

For The Lord Delights In You

"You shall no longer be termed Forsaken... but you shall be called Hephzibah...; For the Lord delights in you... And you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken." Isaiah 62:4, 12, NKJV

Scripture Focus: Isaiah 62:1-12

We were in a passport queue in JFK when a two-year-old in front of us was getting very tired and fractious after a transatlantic journey. Suddenly, all he could do was plead to be lifted up. As he was cradled in his mother's arms, looking up into her face, he was quieted. He knew he was her delight.

Aaron's blessing on Israel included, "The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." This came to fulfillment in what Paul proclaims: "For God... has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6).

When we delight in someone, we love to gaze into their face. The Lord delights in us and gazes into our face and we into His. Psalm 42 says that "the Lord is the health of my countenance." The Message paraphrases it: "He puts a smile on my face." As we seek the face of Jesus Christ - that is, draw close to the Lord and experience His delight - He lightens us so that we may in turn lighten the lives of those around us.

Insight: Jesus took our sin on himself on the cross so that we could be his delight. this scripture certainly puts a smile on my face!

+DEV+ Just In The Nick Of Time

Date: September 20, 2015 10:55 PM
Topic: +DEV+  Just In The Nick Of Time

Just In The Nick Of Time

"For He says: 'In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.' Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." 2 Corinthians 6:2, NKJV

Scripture Focus: Romans 5:1-21

One of the saddest encounters of Paul occurs in Acts 24 when Paul witnesses to Felix, the hard and licentious Roman governor of Judea. Felix, after listening, says to Paul, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you." He continues to dally with Paul and eventually walks off history's stage.

This is similar to an encounter I had with a business person in the spacious days of Pan Am when I shared my testimony with a gentleman. He looked at me, said "That's the most beautiful thing I ever heard," and turned away. In neither case was "God's appointed time" recognized.

There are two words in Greek for time. One is "chromos,"' which refers to time as in "hour following hour." The other is "kairos," which means "the appointed time, the critical moment." "Kairos" is the word used in our verse. Paul uses the same word in Romans 5:6: "at just the right time... Christ died for the ungodly." Jesus came to save us at the crucial moment - in fact, just in the nick of time.

Insight: There are always god-given moments in which to respond to him throughout our christian walk. Is today one of God's kairos moments for you?

+DEV+ The Lord Speaks To His Beloved

Date: September 16, 2015 10:13 PM
Topic: +DEV+  The Lord Speaks To His Beloved

The Lord Speaks To His Beloved

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. And I will give her ...the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there..." Hosea 2:14-15, KJV

Scripture Focus: Joshua 7:1-26, Hosea 2:1-23

This "behold" certainly gives us pause. Outraged with Israel who has backslidden grievously and worshipped idols, God now says to His people through the prophet Hosea, "Therefore..." We might expect Him to follow with, "I will cut her off completely." But astoundingly, the Lord speaks to His beloved ones in one of the greatest outpourings of love to His people in the whole Bible!

He will be gracious to her like a lover and "allure her" into the wilderness where nothing distracts her. There He utters loving words to His wayward people, "speaking home into the heart" (Hebrew for "comfortably").

He promises to make the valley of Achor the "Door of Hope." Achor is where Achan, incurring the wrath of the Lord for disobedience, was stoned to death. The Lord is saying that He will take their punishment and assure them of redemption.

The metaphors and pictures throughout the Bible speak volumes to our hearts, too, centuries after the days of Hosea. Your Savior is calling you to redemption and hope as well.

Insight: Jesus has been "stoned to death" for us on the cross, our door of hope despite our idolatry and backsliding. Let us sing in gratitude!

+DEV+ Salvation Of The Righteous

Date: September 15, 2015 11:56 PM

Salvation Of The Righteous

“Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. …But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: He is their strength in the time of trouble." Psalm 37:37, 39, KJV

Scripture Focus: Psalm 37:1-40

Lest you read this verse and begin looking around  to study upright people, know first and foremost that there has only been one upright man. He, of course, is the lord Jesus. We can only be upright by the grace of God in which we stand, a grace extended to us through Jesus alone.

I have always been struck by the flying buttresses of gothic cathedrals - external supporting structures which hold up the incredible height of the nave. without them the buildings would collapse. one writer paraphrased the greek word "paraclete" (which means advocate or comforter) as "bean pole," because one of the Holy Spirit's functions is to stand alongside, as a bean pole does. without the Holy Spirit, we would not be supported and could not grow. you could say He is our "bean pole" or our "flying buttress." we are supported by the right hand of His Righteousness.

Still there are some believers whom we do behold as distinctively upright. Paul encourages us in 1 Corinthians 4:16 to imitate Him. Whom does Paul follow? Jesus!

Insight: There are many role models we can imitate, but ultimately we will only be upright because the Upright one supports us.

+DEV+ The Lord Of Our Deliverance

Date: September 15, 2015 1:27 AM
Topic: +DEV+  The Lord Of Our Deliverance

The Lord Of Our Deliverance

"Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back." Isaiah 38:17, KJV

Scripture Focus: Isaiah 38:1-20

King Hezekiah of Judah was dying and prayed his great desperate "arrow prayer" to the Lord for deliverance. The Lord added 15 years to his life. In our reading, Hezekiah pours out his soul in thanksgiving. One translation of our verse says "from the pit of nothingness." Isn't that what anguish of soul often feels like? It is the nothingness and the chaos which the Lord spoke His word into at the Creation. God's immense power and love were shown in His creating something out of nothing. Only He can accomplish that. As Andrew Bonar says, "the same Architect, the same skill, the same love" is active in our lives now, shaping a new coherent life for us out of our own bereft "nothingness."

Like Hezekiah we cannot just "psych ourselves out" of depressive thought patterns. But God can and does love us out of whatever our "pit of nothingness" may be. He wants to place each of us on a rock that is higher than we are (see Psalm 61:2). We can't haul ourselves up, but Jesus - who is our Rock - does it for us.

Insight: The Lord has delivered us in the past, is delivering in the present, and will deliver in the future. this is the unbreakable threefold cord.

+DEV+ God is our true helper!

Date: September 13, 2015 11:22 PM
Topic: +DEV+  God is our true helper!

God is our true helper!

"Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life. For He has delivered me out of all trouble; and my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies." Psalm 54: 4, 7, NKJV

Scripture Focus: Psalm 54:1-7

The "behold" in this psalm is intended to help us grasp deeply that God is our true helper. In Genesis 42:36 Jacob bemoans that things seem to always go wrong for him. "Everything is against me," he says. He has lost Joseph and now his sons beg him to allow his beloved youngest son Benjamin to go down with them to Egypt. Jacob fears that he will lose him as well.

All of us have probably expressed something to the same effect at some time. "It always rains when we go on vacation." "It just figures that this would happen to me." Or in an attempt to sympathize with others in their trials we might say, "It's not fair that you have suffered this." "Life can be so cruel."

We said the latter to a pastor friend some time ago and he asked, “Who is being cruel?" That brought us up with a jolt! All these expressions reveal a distrust in the over-arching providence of God. The Lord is the One who upholds our lives. Praise God that in Jesus He has delivered us through every trouble.

Insight:  "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him." (2 CHRONICLES 16:9)

+DEV+ Wanting To Please The Master

Date: September 10, 2015 11:46 PM
Topic: +DEV+  Wanting To Please The Master

Wanting To Please The Master

"Behold, as the eyes of servants look upon the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God." (Psalm 123:2, KJV)

Scripture Focus: Luke 19:11-26

Our obedience to the Lord is not the obeying of a military command where the only response tolerated is "Yes sir!" and the only permitted time frame is immediately. Our lifestyle, Paul says, should, indeed, be as a soldier's, dedicated to the task at hand without the trammels of civilian life. But our relationship to the Lord is more like that of wanting to please a master or mistress, watching him or her closely to capture every nuance of their will.

It may be that sometimes the Master's will seems completely unpalatable to us, as Peter and the others felt on hearing Jesus' hard teaching about drinking His blood and eating His flesh. Yet as His servants, we will say along with Peter, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life" (John 6:68). Anywhere else we would turn will leave us unfulfilled and wandering, for He is our Master, come what may. The meaning of Jesus' words dawned on Peter and the disciples later. It may be like that for us, too, as we learn to wait upon the Lord.

Insight: Because we love the master, we trust him in all circumstances; even if we are slow on the uptake, we will want to please him.

The Coming Great Visitation SWING VOTE pt. 7

The Coming Great Visitation
SWING VOTE
Pt. 7
by Darrel and Cindy Deville

Malachi 3 prophesies of a sudden great visitation, which results in a cleansing of God's house, His leaders, and restoring righteousness.  In Matthew 21, we also see Jesus cleansed the temple, followed by great miracles.  We believe once again God is coming to cleanse and purify His house for the great work ahead.  The following is the first part of a prophetic word that came during prayer in January 2008, after Cindy had seen a vision of the dire condition of the American church.

"There is coming a great visitation to the earth.
A great visitation by My  Spirit.
A visitation such as the earth has not seen or heard.
I will move in unprecedented ways
I will visit the White House
I will visit your home, O man of God!

So prepare, O man of God, prepare!
Prepare everywhere, prepare!
For I will come with great power,
And I will cleanse and I will purify this hour.
I will separate the precious from the vile,
I will remove all things from My house that defile. . .
I will have a glorious church,
And she will rise up and do great wonders in the earth!

It's time to cast aside every weight and sin
that would hold you back and pen you in.
Remove every impure and unclean
thing before your eyes,
The enemy has sent for your destruction and demise.
Arise, O man of God,
it is your day of visitation. . .!"

Although it seems darkness has been advancing everywhere, Satan and the powers of darkness had better beware, for the church of Jesus Christ is about to arise in all the earth - a glorious, victorious church (Is. 60:1-3, Eph. 5:27).
A new day is dawning and the old things will pass away.
God is getting ready to take His church to a whole new level, and now is the time to prepare because church as usual is coming to an end.. . .

What The Church Must do
SWING VOTE
Pt. 7
by Darrel and Cindy Deville

Right now, God is calling all of us to our knees, beginning with those in the pulpits (the real swing vote), for they hold the keys to change everything.  God is calling the five-fold ministry (especially pastors) all across America to unite, humble themselves and lead the way - in genuine repentance and massive daily prayer.  If they will truly respond in obedience to God's cry and instructions - we will see the heavens opened and a holy visitation - a cleansing and purifying fire that will hit our pulpits and send ripple effects throughout the pews and out into the city streets and across our nation from shore to shore!

Note:  Our new book God's Answer for America is a very timely and prophetic message that reveals exactly what God is instructing pastors and churches to do to bring the greatest awakening ever seen, the three keys to bring dramatic and lasting change, and more.

With all this in mind, we point to Peter who declared that judgment must first begin in the house of God (I Peter. 4:17).  This is not a condemning judgment, but rather a purifying and purging that will bring the change within we must have in order to rise up in the earth as the glorious church Christ is returning for (Eph. 5:27; Isa. 60:1-2).  It's time for a holy visitation!. . . .

What is it Going to Take?
SWING VOTE
Pt. 6
by Darrel and Cindy Deville

First, we should understand, we can fight day and night to change laws and legislation, but only god can change the heart and soul of a nation.
True change will come when souls are so shaken under the convicting power of the Holy Spirit that their eyes are opened to see how great their sin is, how great is God's love and how great their need is for Christ and His ways.
It's going to take this happening on a scale that has never been seen before - the greatest awakening ever!

Second, the body of Christ is the vessel that will usher in this great awakening.
Therefore, the depth of change we need in our churches and the nation must begin at the top - in the pulpits of America. . . .

What Has Held Us Back
SWING VOTE
Pt. 5
by Darrel and Cindy Deville

Many with great concern have been speaking of and praying for a great awakening and reformation to bring change, but why have we not yet seen it?  And why have most of our efforts seemed to be - one step forward, two steps back?
The reality is the American church has been greatly hindered and largely ineffective because she has been compromised at most every level.  Not only have we compromised and watered down God's Word of truth, but in both the pulpits and pews, we are seeing unbelievable statistics of adultery, divorce, drunkenness, homosexuality and abortions.  More than 68% of men in church and in excess of 50% percent of pastors are regularly viewing pornography!  Sin and compromise abounds in the pulpits and pews of America.
Because of all this, like Samson with Delilah, we have been stripped of our strength, our vision, and our voice.  Is this perhaps why the world scoffs at our calls for righteous change?
The fact is, we (the American church) are actually part of the problem!  And before we can bring true reformation to our nation we need to reform our own house first.  Before we can get the White House in order we need to get our house in order. . . .

Something Has Gone Wrong
SWING VOTE
Pt. 4
by Darrel and Cindy Deville

As the church, we are the body of Christ in the earth, anointed and equipped by God to lead and be "agents of change," a  shining light releasing heaven and God's will into the earth (Matt. 6:10).  But something has gone terribly wrong.

For decades much of the American church has been like a sleeping giant who has fallen into a lukewarm and disrepute state.  Instead of taking our place as salt and light, we have instead given way allowing the kingdom of darkness to invade, to sow, and take root all across our nation.  "While men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares" (Matt. 13:25).  And in spite of numerous efforts to influence society and the culture, much of the American church instead has been influenced and conformed to the culture and its ways.  As a result we have allowed the progressive stripping away of our godly foundations as our nation continues to spiral downward.

It's undeniable; we are in an epic battle for the soul of our nation.  And now the American church and our nation are like a war zone with casualties everywhere.  We are seeing burnt out, broken and backslidden pastors, as well as lives, marriages and families with broken hearts, broken homes and broken dreams.  So many are confused, are deceived, have gone astray and become prey to the enemy (the kingdom of darkness). . . .

The Most Influential Position in the Nation? SWING VOTE Pt. 3

The Most Influential Position in the Nation?
SWING VOTE
Pt. 3
By Darrel and Cindy Deville

While the president and our nation's other leaders play a critical role, we believe there is an even more essential role in influencing the course of our nation - the pulpits of America.

Confirming this is Charles Finney.  It is said his life and writings influenced more people toward revival and reformation than any other preacher of the 1800's.   He recognized the critical role of the church - especially the pulpits (the five-fold ministry) - plays in the shaping of our culture and nation.  A portion of his sermon "Decay of Conscience" says it well:

Our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits
If immorality prevails in the land,
the fault is ours [the pulpits] in a great degree.
It there is a decay of conscience,
the pulpit is responsible for it. . .
If the church is degenerate and worldly,
the pulpit is responsible for it.
If the world loses is interest in [God],
the pulpit is responsible for it.
If Satan rules in our halls of legislation,
the pulpits is responsible for it.
If our politics become so corrupt that the
very foundations of our government are
ready to fall away,
the pulpits is responsible for it. . .

We believe the case could be made that, biblically speaking, the highest place of ultimate authority and influence for our nation lies not in Washington, D.C., but rather in the pulpits of America, for the spiritual greatly affects the natural (Eph. 6:12).  God's leaders and people hold the greatest spiritual authority as ambassadors representing the supreme kingdom of God, and Christ, the King of kings ( Matt. 28:18-20; Rev. 19:16).  And what the church allows or disallows both inside and outside the church can affect the entire nation (Matt. 18:18).

In relation to all this, Martin Luther King Jr.  prophetically wrote in 1963:

The church must be reminded that it is
not the master or the servant of the state,
but rather the conscience of the state.
It must be the guide and the critic of the
state, and never its tool.  If the church
does not recapture its prophetic zeal,
it will become an irrelevant social club

without moral or spiritual authority."
