How Much Stuff Is Enough
"Then he said to them, Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15
Scripture Focus: Luke 12:13-21
Someone once asked John D. Rockefeller, "How much money is enough?" He replied, "Just a little bit more." If this multimillionaire didn't think he had enough, what about us today?
Life is often gauged in terms of possessions. Money in the bank offers security. We work hard so we can retire and play hard. But Jesus had a different message. He warned against using our resources solely for our own comfort. Instead, we are to have an eternal perspective. God is the one who enables us to earn money, and He expects us to be generous and glorify Him in how we handle our finances.
Some people go through life wondering why God blesses others financially, but does not seem to bless them. Perhaps we should examine what we do with the resources we've already been given. When God grants us material possessions, do we hoard them or use them to bless others? Randy Alcorn, author of The Treasure Principle wrote, "You can't take it with you, but you can send it on ahead." Let's make sure the buck doesn't stop with us!
Insight: Are you generous with your resources for the sake of God's kingdom? Honor God in your finances and allow him to multiply your investment.
