Turning Around

“To those in Damascus...Jerusalem...Judea, and to the Gentiles also, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” (Acts 26:20)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 51:1-13

A three-year-old was playing in her battery-powered jeep, driving up and down the driveway and out into the sidewalk. Her father looked out when he heard no noise, and he saw her turning the corner down the street two blocks away. Alarmed, he ran swiftly after her. Catching her, he eyed her sternly and asked, “What are you supposed to do at the corner?”

She grimaced. “I’m supposed to turn around.”

“Well,” her exasperated father asked, “Why didn’t you?”

She replied, “Oh, I don’t know; I just didn’t.”

How often have we left God’s path, turned the corner, ignored His advice, and suffered the consequences. If God asked us why, we would have to say, “I don’t really know why.” But the truth is we chose to go our own way.

It’s easy to walk away from God, one step at a time, and once we turn away, it’s easy to just keep going. But if we truly repent and turn around, God will forgive us and get us back on the right path.

Insight: True repentance is turning away from our sin and going in the opposite direction, toward God and His forgiveness.
