The Lord of the Storm

"Then Peter got down out of the boat and walked on the water to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, 'Lord, save me!'" (MATTHEW 14:29)
Scripture Focus: Matthew 14:22-36

The disciples went out to sea while Jesus went to the hills to pray. That night a strong wind blew waves against the boat. The disciples' fears grew when they saw "a ghost" walking toward them on the water. Then they recognized Jesus' voice above the storm. "Take courage! Don't be afraid."

For the moment, Peter was filled with courage. Drawn by the comforting sound of Jesus' words, he stepped out of the boat and onto the water. He even made it for a few steps as long as he kept his focus on Jesus rather than on the wind and waves.

This is exactly how we often find ourselves: facing troubles and fears, hearing the trustworthy call of Jesus, going to Him but faltering in our faith. Take heart, because when we are weak, He is strong. When we are sinking, He is reaching out His hand and catching us. When there is nothing in us that can save, His mighty arm is outstretched to us. Pulled under by sickness, unemployment, relationship conflict? Know that the Lord of the storm has you in His grip.

Insight: "You Will Keep In Perfect Peace Him Whose Mind Is Steadfast, Because He Trusts In You." (Isaiah 26:3)

We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and stay close to Him.
