Know Yourself
"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like." (JAMES 1:23-24)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 119:1-16
When my daughters were learning to dress themselves, we frequently reminded them to check their appearance in the mirror. They saw for themselves a smudge of food around the mouth, the blouse buttoned improperly, or the uncombed hair. As they grew, their appearance became important enough that they did not need reminders.
Most of us do not need to be told to check our outward appearance. When it comes to our inner man, it's another story! After all, no one can see sin we're hiding inside until it comes out in words and actions. A family member or friend may have to confront us with sin we try to conceal. Don't wait for that.
Regularly open your Bible and study how your actions align with what God says. What you see in Jesus Christ in God's Word becomes your mirror. It takes humility to get on your knees and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your sin. Pray about it continually ad see how the Lord changes you. When you take God's Word to heart and admit your sin, ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse you.
Insight: Check your words and actions regularly. Reflect Christ whose perfect life is given for you, even as you fall short again and again.
