From Death to Life
"I am the resurrection and the life whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)
Scripture Focus: Isaiah 61:1-3
"Dead to the world" is an expression we use to mean someone is sound asleep and unaware of what's going on around him. He's like someone dead. People can go through they're waking hours like this too, feeling dead to everything around them. Nothing excites or entices them. Sleep becomes a welcome relief. Like a full stomach makes the thought of food unappetizing, a heart that has experienced too much of this world can feel life is unappetizing and dull dead.
Praise God, He has a remedy: Life in Christ! The Bible says that if we give our dead hearts to Him, He will empower them with a joyful, resurrected life. He promises to clean away the ashes and tattered garments of our mourning and give us beauty, gladness, and praise. God sent Jesus not only to take away our sin and deadness, but to fill us with the vibrancy that only a risen Savior can give. Christian writer Nancy Groom put it this way: "Once we've tasted being alive, we can't go back to being dead. 'Aliveness' in God is addictive."
