Built Up in Love

“The body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."  (Ephesians 4:12-13)
Scripture Focus: Ephesians 4:11-16

Some think of the Church as a collection of buildings. However, the Church is not made of wood, bricks, steel, or concrete. Buildings merely provide a meeting place for the true Church.

The Church is the body of Christ - with members of the body encouraging each other, learning together, and working together. It is people joined by their love for Jesus Christ and by His love for them.

This love is what fuels our growth. Through Jesus' love for us, He builds us up into a "unity of faith" and in a "knowledge of the Son of God" (Ephesians 4:13). His goal for us is maturity, a level of wholeness and fullness in our relationship with Him.

The love of Christ also fuels our interactions. The apostle Paul reminds us that we are to address each other truthfully, yet lovingly. Truth without love can easily yield to legalism. Love without truth often results in compromise. Only when truth is spoken in love will the body of Christ be all that our heavenly Father intended.
