Home at Last
"In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you and take you to be with me." (John 14:2-3)
Scripture Focus: John 14:1-14
In biblical times, when a man became betrothed, he would leave his future wife for a year or so to prepare for their new life together. One of his tasks during this time was to build a home for his bride. Their new home was usually an addition built onto his father's family home. As the groom's betrothed waited for him, did she wonder what her new home would be like? Did she imagine her new life there?
In the Bible, marriage is often used as a picture of the relationship between Jesus Christ and His Church. Christians are betrothed to Jesus. Someday, He will return. Until then, He is preparing a place for us in His Father's house.
What kind of home is Jesus building for us? What will it look like? The answers are not important. What matters is that our new home will be perfect because we will be with our Bridegroom.
We have the privilege of building great things for our Bridegroom. Someday, we will have the greater privilege of living in the home He is building for us.
