Foolish People

"It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel." (Proverbs 20:3)

Scripture Focus: 1 Samuel 25:9-19, 32-41

There are a lot of foolish people in the world. Yet for every fool, there seems to be someone who's stuck cleaning up the messes those foolish actions create.

The Bible tells us that Nabal was one of those irascible fools. In contrast, Abigail, his beautiful and intelligent wife, was the fixer of his foolishness. She had her hands full putting up with his tirades and unsnagging his entanglements. Then, Nabal crossed the wrong person. Except for Abigail's quick thinking and actions, he almost brought destruction on his household. There were still consequences. After he'd spent a night in debauchery, his wife admitted what she'd done to avert David's fatal attack, and Nabal had a stroke and died.

There are troubleshooters and troublemakers; people whose goal is to advance the work of God as diplomats and peacemakers, and those who, by their argumentative words and foolish actions promote discord and dissension. Let's be builders and not demolition experts as we live out our adventures for
Jesus Christ.

Insight: "For God is not a God of disorder but of peace." (1 Corinthians 14:33)
