Jesus Overcame the World

"'No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,' declares the Lord." (Isaiah 54:17)

Scripture Focus: Isaiah 54:11-17

While this passage refers to the coming time when our Lord returns, it also is practical now. I know these words of Isaiah meant much to my doctor and friend whose son in the military was in a war-zone. My friend prayed this verse constantly, asking God to keep any enemy or weapon from touching his son. To be an overcomer implies that one, first is or has experienced being under attack in some way. Hardly anyone would not fit that description.

Ideally, we'd all emerge from the "battle zone" unwavering in our faith and still joyful in Christ. I've seen many a trial-worn believer come through times of suffering. If it weren't for the fact that our Overcomer, Jesus, endured every hardship and evil of this world for us, it would indeed be hard to carry on.

Satan's goal is to squeeze us into the world's mold. God's goal is for us to follow Him and battle the world's wickedness, living "self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age" (Titus 2:12). Celebrate your faith in our ultimate Overcomer!

Insight: Jesus tells us to be courageous in our struggles, for He has already won victory and peace for us.
