A Thankful Song
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.” (Psalm 28:7)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 28
It’s interesting to note how many of David’s psalms start with heartfelt pleas for God’s help and protection, and end with expression of praise and thanks. I don’t think, in most cases, God miraculously solved the problem before the psalm was completed. But just the act of talking to God and giving the problem into God’s hands changed David’s attitude from fear to faith. No matter what troubling situation he was in, talking to his Heavenly Father about it awakened a song of thanks. David praised God, not only for what He had done, but also for what He would do.
How many times have you gone to God in prayer over a problem weighing you down, only to end up thanking Him before He answered your prayer? As we talk to Him, God calms us with His presence and reminds us of all He has done for us in the past.
Somehow, the problems we had on our minds don’t matter so much anymore. We realize that He is all that matters. And we can’t help but thank Him.
Insight: Trusting God may not always make problems disappear, but it certainly cuts them down to a manageable size.
