Saved from Myself
"I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior" (Isaiah 43:11). "We have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world" (1 John 4:14).
Scripture Focus: Matthew 1:18-21; Romans 10:9-13
Some of us have no trouble asking for help. Others will jump through hoops before we ask for assistance, no matter how much we need to be saved from difficult situations. We don't want people to think we can't take care of ourselves.
Whether we admit it or not, there is one area where we all need saving. No effort of ours can save us from sin's penalty: eternal suffering and separation from God. That's why God sent His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
But what about after our salvation from sin's penalty? I've found I also need saving from living the Christian life in my own strength. It's easy for me to fall into the trap of thinking that now it is my hard work that will keep me saved.
Salvation-a restored relationship with the Father-is about trusting the Son, Jesus Christ, to provide our salvation, and surrendering to the Holy Spirit for the strength to walk in that relationship. He saves us from our sin, and He saves us from ourselves.
Insight: How have you been relying on your own strength to fight sin's power in your life? Consider all you have learned from this experience.
