From Prisoner to Chief Governor

"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (Genesis 50:20)

Scripture Focus: Genesis 37:2-36; 45:1-15

Being the favorite of 12 brothers went to Joseph's head. By the time he was a teen, received his special coat, and shared his strange dreams, his jealous brothers hated him. They plotted his murder, then sold him for cash instead. Being a slave and prisoner humbled Joseph before the Lord. Brought from prison, he interpreted Pharaoh's dreams about feast and famine, and proposed a plan to store up food throughout Egypt.

When famine struck, Joseph's family in Canaan traveled to Egypt and unknowingly came before Joseph, now Pharaoh's chief governor. Through the faithful shaping of Joseph's life, God moved him to forgive, welcome, feed, and offer his brothers refuge. What a perfect picture of how Jesus forgives, welcomes, nourishes, and protects us!

As with Joseph, God promises never to abandon us. We can confidently place our lives in His hands.

Insight: "Do not be afraid... for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6)
