The God Who Hears
"The Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt ... So I have come down
to rescue them." Exodus 3:7-8
Scripture Focus: John 1:1-18
When times are good we tend to forget about God. Then when things get hard we remember our need for God and cry out for help. But then comes a time of waiting. Rarely does God answer our prayers immediately. In times of waiting, do you ever find yourself wondering if God is listening or even cares about what you are
going through?
Countless stories in the Bible remind us that nothing escapes God's notice. One of the most powerful examples is the story of the Exodus. After generations of slavery, it is little wonder that the people of Israel had lost hope. Centuries went by and they had nearly forgotten God. But God had not forgotten about them. It was He who moved first. The great "I AM" approached Moses in the wilderness and said, "I have indeed seen ... I have heard ... I am concerned ... So I have come down to rescue."
Ultimately, the story of the Exodus points us to Christ. Just as God rescued His people from slavery, it would be Christ who rescued God's people from inescapable bondage to sin.
Insight: There is purpose in waiting. God does not withhold answers to prayer to punish us. He often desires to teach us something of great value.
