Priorities

"A good name is more desirable than
great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." (ROMANS 6:11)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 37

Sometimes a name suggests a reputation. Just the mention of it may prompt others to think, "Oh, she's from the family of musicians," or "He's from that family who owns the grocery stores," or "Their family has had all the trouble with the law." A teacher may form an opinion of a student based on the family name. Because our name often identifies us, we want to make sure we're building a good one.

Mistakenly, much of the world believes that establishing a good name comes by acquiring wealth and living luxuriously. They look for what gives the most pleasure or yields the most money, thinking those will establish an admired name.

As Christians, we have wonderful news: the good name to be chosen is the name of Jesus. It's not our own name at all! By relinquishing the never-ending quest for our own aggrandizing, we are given instead the name above all names, the name that all the stars and storms know, the name that will one day cause every knee to bow: Jesus!

Insight: When Life In This World Draws To A Close, My Money Will Not Go With Me, But The Name Of The Lord Will Be On Me Forever.
