The Master Teacher
“I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you....Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (John 13:15-17)
Scripture Focus: John 13:12-17
John, the beloved disciple, became a great and respected teacher who wrote one of the Gospels and three letters which we have in the New Testament.
In his first letter he gives us insight into what made him so loved as a teacher. “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us” (1 John 1:3). John’s credibility came from his close relationship with Jesus, the Master Teacher.
Jesus led people by His example and His Father’s Word. He reached out to the sick, the fatherless, and the misfits, teaching them about God’s love through miracles He performed and stories drawn from their everyday experiences. He fed their bodies and demonstrated His love for them. Still, He never hesitated to ask hard questions and point out people’s sins. Every word He spoke and all His actions came from His loving heart.
John could teach of God’s love because he had been taught. We can speak of our faith when we are learning from the Master Teacher.
Insight: We learn from the Master Teacher as we saturate ourselves with God’s Word. The closer we are to Him, the more His love will shine through us.
