Thankful for All Things
“Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:4-5)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 107:1-9
It rained for two gloomy days. I appreciated the rain, but I wished it would stop. Then a friend stopped by. She told me a secret—she loved rainy days especially! She explained that on beautiful, sunny days when her children were small, her farmer husband was always working—plowing or planting, fixing equipment, or mowing. The only time they could go somewhere as a family was on some Sundays or on rainy days.
When I find it hard to praise God for gloomy days, I think about His promise to Noah in a rainbow. He would not destroy the earth in a flood again. We can’t see a rainbow on a perfect, sunny day. It takes rain for it to appear.
Sometimes it takes stormy days or hard times to make me think about all the ways God has blessed me. When I stop and think about it, I realize that God literally floods me with blessings all the time. I’m afraid, though, the thanks I usually express to Him is more like a trickle than a flood. I want to learn to be thankful every day in all things.
Insight: Let’s thank God for all His gifts, even when we aren’t sure they’re blessings. He knows what we need better than we do.
