Growing Through Rest

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.” (Psalm 92:12-13)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 92:12-15

Winter arrives in the Midwest and changes our world. Along roadways and in our yards and gardens, dead grass, plants, and bushes appear lifeless, fallen over against the hard earth. It seems sad after they have fought so hard to survive. But are the plants really dead? Their roots are still firmly planted in the soil. They are merely resting through the winter, dormant, waiting for the spring sun to bring them back to life.

Sometimes my life feels dormant as I sit on the sidelines watching other people with their accomplishments. Then I read God’s Word and find new strength and purpose. I take time to pray for people and feel compassion for them. I reach out, listening to their heartaches and sympathizing with them.

Many of us have times when life seems to be on hold. Our Master Teacher is teaching us to rest and learn from Him. When we put other things aside and focus on listening to Him and serving others, we learn to become stronger and more caring Christians.

Insight: Flourish by taking time in God’s Word and give thanks for quiet times that prepare our hearts and help us grow.
