The Path to Freedom

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Scripture Focus: Ephesians 2:1-10

Three-year-old Grange was born in Kiev and lived in an orphanage. Then a kind couple from the United States adopted him. Grange doesn’t realize it yet, but he has been given a wonderful gift. Living on a farm with his new sister and two parents who love him, Grange will have many more opportunities and freedom. His new parents have offered him a whole new life.

That’s a small picture of what Jesus has done for us. He doesn’t offer us money, houses, boats, or cars. It doesn’t matter whether we live in a mansion, on a farm, or on the street. True happiness can be found only when we ask for His forgiveness.

Jesus paid with His life for our forgiveness. We did nothing to deserve it, and because He loves us He offers it to us freely. By His grace we can have freedom from sin, eternal life, and a prepared place in Heaven. And it doesn’t cost us a thing. Christ already paid the price for all of us. All we have to do, like Grange, is accept what is offered. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, we’re on the path of freedom.

Insight: Only God would offer something that cost so much for free! You can’t buy it or earn it. Salvation is a free gift.
