Remembrances

“Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name: make known among the nations what he has done....Remember the wonders he has done.” (1 Chronicles 16:8, 12)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 77:11-15

A couple of ladies were talking at an auction I attended. “It just isn’t right for those children to lay out all their mother’s precious things for others to see. Why, she traveled all over the world collecting these lovely things. Now the objects she held dear are being pawed over by strangers.”

At first I agreed with the ladies. However, watching the bright smiles on people’s faces enlightened me. It was evident that these objects brought many happy memories. One person remarked, “It’s something to remember her by.”

My wife has a porcelain doll that was her grandmother’s. When I look at it I remember her kindness and her Missouri hospitality. It’s good to have certain things that remind us of fond memories.

When we look at the wonders of nature we are reminded of God’s love of beauty, His power and faithfulness. When we see verses we have underlined in our Bibles we remember how God has kept His promises, guided us, and given us comfort when we needed it.

Insight: Each of us has different things that make us think of God. Let’s share them with others, especially those who don’t know Him.
