Vision of the Heart

"I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you" (Ephesians 1:18)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 119:32-37

My parents often warned me, "Take care of your eyes. They're the only ones you get!" They also taught me that I and everyone else was born blind, spiritually blind.

According to the Bible, our hearts, the wellsprings of our beings, are deceitful and beyond cure because of sin (Jeremiah 17:9). St. Augustine put it this way: "Our whole business in this life is to restore to health the eye of the heart whereby God may be seen." How can we do that if the eyesight in our inmost being is damaged beyond repair?

The truth is we cannot. However, through His marvelous grace and love, God has provided the cure in the person of Jesus Christ. He wants to come into our hearts, wash them clean, and repair all the damage that sin has done. Have you ever asked Jesus to come into your heart, into that innermost part of who you are, to restore your spiritual eyesight? If not, will you do it now? God will forgive your sin so you can gaze on Him and see life from a whole new perspective.

Insight: Thou Hast Bid Me Gaze Upon Thee; And Thy Beauty Fills My Soul; For By Thy Transforming Power; Thou Hast Made Me Whole. (Jean Sophia Pigott, 1876)
