Garments Of Love

"Therefore as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." (Colossians 3:12)

Scripture Focus: Romans 13:11-14

The Old Testament priests were attired in special garments that set them apart from the rest of the people. Those garments, described in Exodus 28, were designed to reflect God's holiness and remind the people of their unique relationship to Him.

When Paul spoke to his friends in Colosse and Rome of putting on garments appropriate to holiness, the picture of the priestly garments probably came to mind. But they were not to be worn for show. It is quite the opposite! Putting on kindness, patience - indeed, putting on Jesus Christ Himself - is bound to be noticed and perhaps even draw others to the Lord.

Suppose you were always compassionate, humble and gentle with the members of your family. Would they notice (or worry) that you were sick? Suppose you put on the love of Jesus every day with the people you work with and meet. What kind of impression would that leave?

Through our holy God who owns us, our lives reflect His character. Praise Him for clothing us with His righteousness.

Insight:
"Father, please clothe me with Jesus and his Holiness so that i might more effectively share the gospel with others."
