Topic: +DEV+  Now This Is Eternal Life

Now This Is Eternal Life
"Now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life." (Romans 6:22)

Scripture Focus: 1 John 5:11-20

You may think of eternal life as unending existence. It is, indeed, everlasting. But actually, it is more than that! Even those who are not saved will have an unending existence - in hell. Eternal life is a new quality of life altogether. It is God's life in us. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we have become partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4) and have received the Holy Spirit in us (Galatians 3:2).

Jesus defined eternal life this way: "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3). "Knowing" is more than having head knowledge. It is entering into a living relationship with Him. As we draw nearer to the next life, our new life no longer holds us hostage to sin. Are we exempt from sin? Not yet. Do we still stumble and fall? Yes. But we are already on our way to holiness, casting away our old life and its bondage to sin. We are growing in holiness that leads to Christ-likeness, and the result is eternal life.

Insight:
"Thank you for the new life I have in Christ and for the eternal life with him that awaits me."
