Christ, Our Righteousness
"It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God - that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption." (1 CORINTHIANS 1:30)
Scripture Focus: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Other than when used in American surf slang, such as, "That wave is totally righteous, dude," the word "righteous" does not get much use in English. We may perhaps associate it with someone who does no wrong. While the term does include the idea of good behavior, there is much more depth to it for us as Christians.
Righteousness is a positive attribute given by God in response to faith. Early on, God made a promise to Abraham about his offspring. Abraham believed what God told him and the Bible says, his belief was "counted to him as righteousness."
It works the same for us today except the promise to us who believe is the promise that Jesus died for our sins and rose again from the dead. His sacrifice was acceptable to justify us before God. God counts us as righteous. In fact, we are given the righteousness of Christ.
That is God's wisdom. It is not the wisdom of this age, but God's wisdom - that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
Insight: When The Conviction Of Your Own Recurring Sin Overwhelms You, Remember That The Righteousness Of Jesus Covers Over It All.
