God Behind the Scenes
"When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers, There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord, victory rests with the Lord." (PROVERBS 21:15-16; 30-31)
Scripture Focus: Proverbs 21
The book of Esther tells of Haman, proud descendant of Amalek, longtime enemy of the Jews. Second only to the king in power, Haman targets Mordecai, a Jewish official who won't pay him honor. Mordecai will not bow to a man with such a history of opposition to the Lord and His people.
It's shocking to read of Haman's outrageous response to Mordecai's simple refusal to bow: ordering the killing of every Jew in the land (Jewish Queen Esther included). His ego had been hurt, and anyone knows that when the proud human heart is involved, ugly things can happen.
But just as surely, we know that when God is involved (and He always is!), amazing things can happen. This is the only book of the Bible with no mention of God's name. Yet at every turn, there is no one whose presence is more obvious than God. There may be times in our lives when God seems absent, times when our egos intrude, but God is there, weaving the threads of our lives into a tapestry that testifies of His might and honor.
Insight: God, Who Turns A King's Heart, Directing It Like A River Wherever He Pleases, Has Directed Every Turn In Your Own Heart And Life Also.
