No Self-Made Man
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (EPHESIANS 2:10)
Scripture Focus: Ephesians 2:1-10
Believers have an edge on their fellow man when it comes to questions of why we are here on this earth at all. Many people have wrestled with these questions since their youth. Our answers come to us in Christ.
First, God has chosen you to be His own; what you are is what God made you to be. We are God's workmanship, not our own workmanship, not self-made men and women.
Second, in Christ God has prepared good works for you to do. That includes your career and how you express the life and love of God in the work place. It includes the influence you may have on your neighbors. When we recognize the gifts and interests God has placed in us, we can use them uniquely to bless others. "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us" (Romans 12:6).
Third, give yourself to God, "as living sacrifices" (see Romans 12:1). To the extent that you offer yourself to God, you will display His glory and find yourself doing the good works He has planned just for you.
