Valuing Your Treasure
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." (MATTHEW 13:44)
Scripture Focus: Matthew 13: 44-50
You may recall the famous painting by Grant Wood, "American Gothic." It's one of the most parodied works of art - probably because of the sour faces of the pitchfork-holding farmer and his wife. The painting certainly does not convey joy, does it? There have been times when I or other Christians I've known have felt about as jubilant as that farmer looks.
Do you also feel like your life as a believer holds no joy? The Bible gives us a reason why that is so. Unlike the man in the parable in Matthew 13, we have not fully appreciated the value of the treasure (It's Jesus Christ!) in our field. The man realized that the treasure hidden in the field had value that far exceeded everything he owned. So it was with great joy that he sold all he had to purchase that field.
When I lack abundant, overflowing joy, it is because either I haven't appreciated the value of Jesus or I have allowed other things to crowd out my love for Him. Be filled with joy for the life in Him that He has given you!
