Enjoying the Light

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.” (Psalm 19:1-2)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 19

I love to watch the sky. The sun rises and sets. At dawn a fiery ball strikes the clouds with beautiful red, pink, and purple streaks. The evening’s dim light, as it sinks out of sight, fills me with anticipation of another day. At night, the moon and stars give the night sky a soft glow. They all seem to say, “God is here. Can’t you see Him?

There is nowhere on earth where the sun is not shining or the moon glowing at some point. They are universal reminders of God’s power and sovereignty. Their unfailing coming and going right on schedule make us think of our Creator’s faithfulness.

Jesus came to be the greatest light of all, “the true light to every man” (John 1:9). Many people do not recognize or acknowledge His light, but that doesn’t make Him shine any less brilliantly. Those who place their trust in Him discover new light in the dark places of their hearts. He promises, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (8:12).

Insight: The light of the world, Jesus, gives light to those who love Him to pass along to others in spiritual darkness. Let it shine!
