God’s Children

“I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people....I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters.” (2 Corinthians 6:16,18)
Scripture Focus: Proverbs 1:8-19

Walking alongside his four-year-old son, the young father smiles. His son tries hard to follow him and talk like him, even walk like him. Sometimes, though, the little boy mischievously runs off in another direction. Patiently, his dad finds him, takes his hand, and leads him back to where he should be. Then off they go together.

The father is consistent in making his son mind because he loves him. When the boy makes a mistake, Dad corrects him, then lovingly takes him back in his arms. If the boy falls and hurts himself, Dad picks him up and soothes him.

God is the most loving father of all. He reaches out to us and leads us. When we are wrong, He corrects us and faithfully teaches us the way we should go. When we sin, He deals with us as we need it. Yet He also sees our hurts and disappointments, and comforts us. Could we have a more loving father? He loves us as no one else ever could, and nothing we do will ever make Him stop loving us, simply because He’s our Father.

Insight: With outstretched arms, God chooses to love us, not because we deserve it or have earned it, but because He loves His children.
