Identified with Our Teacher

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is.” (Romans 12:2)
Scripture Focus: Romans 12

Hanging on a wall in a professional office we often see a framed diploma, confirming the recipient has been trained at a highly respected institution. The graduate speaks with pride in the well-earned credentials.

In contrast, Jesus, the greatest teacher of all time, was not given the respect and reverence He deserved. He was misunderstood so badly that He was accused of being possessed by a demon.

I wonder, if I had walked this earth with Jesus, would I have been ashamed of Him, afraid to be His friend because He was so misjudged? He knew what was in each person’s heart. He performed miracles, and spoke of God as His Father. He challenged the religious establishment, sometimes speaking harshly to them, and making enemies.

Jesus was “different” because He was linked in perfect harmony with His Father. He made a difference in lives because He had the power to change hearts. How could we be ashamed of Him when He has made such great differences in our lives?

Insight: When we follow Jesus we discover that in His case “different” is the very best thing that ever happened to us.
